| Description: | The New Press publishes books that promote and enrich public discussion and understanding of the issues vital to our democracy and to a more equitable world. Underlying The Press's mission are three aims: to broaden the audience for serious intellectual work, especially by reaching out to audiences intellectually red-lined by commercial publishers; to bring out the work of traditionally underrepresented voices; and to address the problems of a society in transition, highlighting attempts at reform and innovation in a wide range of fields.
The New Press offers three internships in spring, summer, and fall of each year: an editorial internship, a publicity internship, a development internship, and an accounting internship. Each intern post comes with its own specific and challenging duties, familiarizing the intern with a wide array of skills and techniques. |
| Length of Internship: | Spring: January through May
Summer: June through August Fall: September through December |
| Requirements: | Interns will often be responsible for office duty, so prior office experience is also helpful, as is any prior experience in publishing, editing, book sales, graphic design, etc. While we make a point of familiarizing interns with a variety of programs at The New Press, prior computer skills are always a plus. An interest in the goals and mission of The New Press's publishing program is strongly desired. Applicants must have authorization to work in the United States. |
